M.A.P.T. Conference and Trade Show

2017 Annual M.A.P.T. Conference and Trade Show

The workshop will be presented from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Student Transportation of America facility on Clark Lane in Columbia, MO.  STA will provide one (1) Type A bus with special service lift, one (1) Type C bus, and one (1) Type D bus, as well as the use of three of the bays at their facility.  The Type A bus will have hydraulic brakes.  The Types C & D buses will have air brakes.  (No Type B buses are available at STA.  Since very few are in service in Missouri anyway; it has been determined to not attempt to find one for the workshop.)  Other than the buses, all inspection equipment for the workshop will be provided by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. and is the same as the equipment that they bring on-site to conduct school bus inspections in the field.

The Missouri Association for Pupil Transportation will provide transportation for the attendees, leaving the Holiday Inn Executive Center (rear parking lot, outside of the lobby where registration is held) at 12:45 pm for the STA facility.  The program will begin with a 10-15 minute introduction by Dan Gregory, Chief Motor Vehicle Inspector and Assistant Director of the MSHP Motor Vehicle Inspection Division.  Inspector Gregory’s remarks will include:

     *  Introduction of MVI personnel participating in the day’s program

     *  Overview of the afternoon’s program

     *  Tips for drivers bringing buses in for inspection

Each workshop participant will be provided with a copy of SHP-517, School Bus Inspection Checklist.  Inspector Gregory will conclude his introduction by reminding the attendees that the specific order in which a bus is inspected may vary from one troop to the next, but that all troops are required to inspect items based upon the Missouri School Bus Inspection Regulations manual, available on the division’s webpage.

Workshop participants will be divided into three groups.   There will be three “rounds” of inspection.  By the end of the day, each group will have observed the inspection of a Type A, Type C & Type D bus.   MSHP inspection personnel will be assigned to a specific bay for the duration of the program, and will not rotate through the different bus types.  MSHP inspectors will demonstrate the inspection process, verbalizing what is being inspected and how that item is to be inspected (visual, hand pressure, etc.).  At the completion of each demonstration, before the participants move on to the next bay, the floor will be opened for questions.  In order to complete the program on time, each “round” will be 50 minutes in length.  During the 50 minutes, MSHP inspectors will need to complete the demonstration and allow time for questions to be posed.
